Discovering, detecting, and surgically removing Google's AI watermark (github.com) AI
A GitHub project details a reverse-engineering approach to Google Gemini’s SynthID invisible image watermark, using spectral analysis to detect it and estimate its resolution-dependent carrier structure. The authors build a multi-resolution “SpectralCodebook” to remove the watermark in the frequency domain without access to Google’s proprietary encoder/decoder, reporting high phase-coherence reduction and image quality metrics across resolutions. The repo also invites contributors to generate large numbers of pure black and pure white reference images to improve carrier extraction robustness.
